Lene Boel

Artistic leader & Choreographer 
 
Educated at London Contemporary Dance School , Merce Cunningham Studio, Susan Klein School, Trisha Brown Company and Movement Research i New York City and European Dance Development Center in Holland.  Lene Boels education is wide from Cunningham technique Classical ballet, Klein-technique, release-technique , improvisation, contact improvisation, street dance and choreographic composition. Her master teachers have been Trisha Brown, Merce Cunningham, Steve Paxton and Susan Klein. 

From the Danish Arts Council she has been granted 16 workgrants  and 2 prices from Danish Artists association and Albert Gaubiers Fund .  Lene Boel´s choreographies Tribe (2011) and Dreamtime (2015) were both nominated for the prestigious Reumert price in the category  ”Best Dance performance of the year”.  

Lene Boel has created 14 solo performances, 21 ensemble pieces, 4 dance films and 2 dance installations. In Copenhagen Boel´s performances has been shown at Dansescenen, Statens Museum for Kunst, K2/Kanonhallen, Institut Francais, Filmhuset, Teatermuseet i Hofteatret, Stærekassen, Nationalmuseet, Maskinhallen, AFUK, Dansekapellet, Botanisk Have,The Royal Opera/ Takkelloftet, Dansehallerne and Skuespilhuset.

Selected performances tour to other theatres in Denmark such as Bora Bora, Roskilde Teater, Åben Dans Musicon/ Laboratoriet / Roskilde (Swop Festival maj 2012 ) , Vestjyllands Højskole/ Ringkøbing Teater, Slagelse Teater, Holbæk Teater, Hjørring Teater, Baltoppen Live, Odsherred Teater, Team Teatret, Odin Teater, Baltoppen Live, Limfjordsteatret, Thy Teater, Nordkraft, Tønder Teater, Næstved Teater, Kappelborg Kulturhus i Skagen, Teater Momentum,  Dynamo, Nord Atlantens Hus,Kulturværftet i Helsingør, Dynamo, Gribskov Teater. 

Internationally NEXT ZONE and choreographer Lene Boel´s performances have been presented in Italy,  Portugal, Germany, Spain, Hungary, France, Norway, England, Holland, Monaco, USA, Greenland, Iceland and Canada in festivals such as Junge Hunde in Kampnagel, Festival de la Nouvelle Danse Uzès, Monaco Dance Forum (2002 & 2006), Masdanza (2005 ), Almada Dance Festival ( 2006), Festival Fabbrica Europa ( 2007 ) Cinedans ( 2007), Dance on Camera Festival på Lincoln Center i New York ( 2008 ) ,Gallery Start i Reykjavik( 2009), Rencontres La Villette i Paris (april 2009), Katuaq i Nuuk / Grønland ( november 2009 ),  Tour to six towns in Westgreenland and  Eastgreenland (Illuissat, Aasiat, Sisimiut, Maniitsoq, Nuuk, Tasiilaq samt Nordens Hus i Reykjavik - maj 2010), Cinars Montréal/ Canada (november 2010 ), Festival Open Look i Sankt Petersborg/Rusland (juli 2011), Simridshamn Teaterforening og Dunkers Kulturhus i Helsingborg (Sverige/ Salto Festival ), Napa/ Åland /Kulturhuset Mariahamn (Åland /Finland ), Nordens Hus i Torshavn / Færøerne (september 2011 med Ritual og i april 2012 med Tribe), Festival Karavel / Lyon ( oktober 2009 & oktober 2011) samt Festival Hautes Tensions i Paris (april 2012 ), samt på turneer til 8 byer i Grønland i 2013 og 2015 og 2016. In February 2014 Lene Boel premiered Viking Runes in Reykjaviks City Theatre a choreography created on Iceland Dance Company in coproduction with Next Zone. In fall 2016 Viking Runes toured in Greenland, Iceland, Faroe Island. In 2017 the performance Ritual was selected for touring in Nordic-Baltic Dance Loop in Norway, Finland, Denmark and Estonia.  

NEXT ZONE received residency in Pôle en Scenes / Mourad Merzouki i Lyon in
fall 2017 and a residency at Théâtre de Suresnes Jean Villar in Paris i februar 2018 in connection with presenting tre chorepgraphies  FORCES OF THE NORTH (Viking Runes, Ritual og Super Human) in january 2019 at Festival Suresnes Cités Danse i Paris in France  

Ritual, Super Human , Viking Runes were  presented at Düsseldorf Festival i 2019, Festival Quartiers Danse i Montréal in fall 2019 and at Les Boreales in Caen in November 2021.Global Souls, Extinction Rebellion, Immortality and Ritual was presented at Théatré de Nîmes in October 2020 and October 2021.  

In 2022 NEXT ZONE upgraded and perform TRIBE , a dance piece inspired by Nijinskys Sacre du Printemps which was  performed 21 times in Denmark and directly after toured in two cities in Mexico in Festival Culturel de Mayo

In March 2022 premiered TRANSHUMANISTS (2 dancers ) and in spring 2023 three new pieces                                              JOYOUS ( five dancers )and 4 HORSEMEN ( 4 dancers ) and LOVE premiered at AVENY-T and BRØNDSALEN in Copenhagen. 

In April 2024 NEXT ZONE will premiere two new pieces
