FORCES OF THE NORTH is a fusion of three Next Zone performances; SUPER HUMAN (2018), VIKING RUNES (2015) and RITUAL FOR THE INUIT (2010).
The triple-header was presented at Theâtre de Suresnes Jean Vilar in Paris on 29 and 30 January 2019, at AFUK, Copenhagen on 1 and 2 February 2019, and at Kulturværftet, Helsingør on 3 February 2019.
”Lene Boel has created a completely integrated performance
that ingeniously merges Inuit and hip-hop culture. (…)
Boel’s Greenland inspired hip-hop dance performance is as
clear as a bell bull’s eye with wide audience appeal.”
- MAJBRITT HJELMSBO, WEEKENDAVISEN
”Lene Boel brings ferocity into her dancers, regardless of their background.
Brawny and unconquerable.”
- ANNE MIDDELBOE CHRISTENSEN, INFORMATION
”It feels like genius on display. Hip-hop and Inuit dance merge for a
thrilling ride. (…) The breakdancers are so skilled and the choreography
so precise that you feel you are witnessing some form of shape-
shifting human origami, as they fluidly fold themselves like contortionists.”
- EMILY CLARK, COPENHAGEN POST
”Choreographer Lene Boel has hit the spot! (…) High five for a new
man. Choreographer Lene Boel and two break dancers take off
from the ice cap and land with a strong bid for a new type of man.”
- MONNA DITMER, POLITIKEN
"Lene Boel has a special ability to mix street-dance, modern dance and
circus artistry so it becomes potent, intriguing, innovative and merges
into an integrated performance – not an easy task to accomplish!”
