A MAGICAL AND INTENSE DANCE PERFORMANCE CHALLENGING THE BOUNDARIES OF HUMAN PHYSICALITY
SHAMAN is a magical and unique dance performance inspired by the shamanistic cultures of both the indigenous peoples of the
South American rainforest and the Inuit of the Arctic.
Created by choreographer Lene Boel who in 2011 was nominated for the prestigious Reumert prize for her performance TRIBE.
SHAMAN will be performed by a break-dancer, a popper (electric boogie) and a new-circus artist and investigates the unexplored territory between these dance forms. SHAMAN consists of colorful images, magical atmosphere and dance where the soul symbolical leaves the body and goes on a journey into the spirit world to gain new knowledge, solve conflicts and create harmony between nature and humanity. In the performance the dancers transform into shamans who through trials of skill and endurance discover the boundaries of what is mentally and physically possible.
To survive in the South American rainforest, on the Siberian tundra or in the wild Greenlandic nature, requires very specific and specialized skills developed over many generations. As the climate changes the people who inhabit these communities will be threatened and this knowledge will vanish forever.
SHAMAN pays tribute to these endangered cultures, their values and the nature they inhabit focusing on the human ability to make contact with nature and use its resources, without creating imbalance or taming it.
The company NEXT ZONE creates the performance and it consists of a strong artistic team; Choreographer Lene Boel, composer Rex Casswell and lighting designer Jesper Kongshaug. The dancers are Daniel ‘Sonic’ Rojas and others.

Berlingske: The almost gentle motion quality is fascinating, as is the musicality and the flow of the dancers in the equilibristic break moves and inventive stunts.
Weekendavisen: With TRIBE Lene Boel nails Igor Stravinsky’s ‘The Rite of Spring’ with incantatory marvelous hip-hop dance. Wow! Respect!
Politiken: Acrobatic virtuosity
Jyllandsposten: Surpasses all other break dancing
